Flustar 500mg Capsule comprises "Flucloxacillin Sodium", which is an antibiotic belonging to the penicillin group. It is utilized for treating different bacterial infections that affect the skin, soft tissues, respiratory tract, bones, bone marrow, intestines, urinary tract, ears, meningitis, and septicemia. The medication functions by obstructing the formation of cell walls in the bacteria, which is vital for their survival. This results in the killing of the bacteria, thereby successfully treating several bacterial infections.

Pharmacology

Flucloxacillin is active against Gram-positive organisms, including penicillinase-producing strains. It has little effect on Gram-negative bacilli. Flucloxacillin works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell dividers. Flucloxacillin is an isoxazolyl penicillin that combines penicillinase resistance, stomach corrosive stability, and activity against gram-positive microscopic organisms. Flucloxacillin has the potential to be a bactericidal anti-microbial, particularly against penicillinase-producing staphylococci. Flucloxacillin destroys bacterial cell walls, hence it works as an interferometer with a peptidoglycan mix. Peptidoglycan might be a heteropolymeric structure that provides mechanical strength to the cell divider. The final arrangement of peptidoglycan union comprises the completion of the cross-linking with the Penta glycin bridge's terminal glycine buildup attaching to the pentapeptide's fourth buildup. In cases of secondary bacterial infection in chickenpox, Flustar® 500mg should be taken every 6 hours.
• For children aged between 2-10 years, the recommended dosage is half of the adult dose. For children under 2 years of age, the dosage is a quarter of the adult dose. Children have been prescribed doses ranging from 12.5 to 25mg per kg of body weight, to be taken four times daily.

Flustar 500mg Capsule should be taken on an empty stomach. Take on an empty stomach ½-1 hr before meals. Swallow it as a whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. 

Interaction

When Probenecid is taken with Flucloxacillin, the serum peak concentrations of Flucloxacillin increase, and the time taken to achieve therapeutic concentrations in the serum is extended. However, there have been reports of physical incompatibility and/or a reduction in the activity of Flucloxacillin when it is mixed with solutions containing gentamycin sulfate, streptomycin sulfate, or vitamin mixtures.
